Why Prince William Was Reportedly "Jealous" of Harry Recently

The Invictus Games have become one of the most high-profile initiatives from the royal family, spanning the globe with stops in Canada, Germany, the United States, and Australia — all while shining a light on some of Prince Harry's most beloved causes, like supporting veterans and sharing the importance of both mental and physical health. However, according to a new ABC News special, Prince Harry's Mission: Life, Family and Invictus Games, Harry may have one detractor: his brother, Prince William.

In the special, British journalist Robert Jobson explains that William was "surprised" at the success of the games, which are often seen as Harry's "number one passion project," and even felt a little jealous about how well-received the adaptive sports competition has become.

"It's been very successful since its outset," Jobson said. "It doesn't come cheap, it costs a lot of money, and he's been able to continue to raise that money throughout this period, which is impressive."

"But I think there was a degree of jealousy about how well it had gone," Jobson continued. "I do think that William was surprised how much this had been such a success and how much money was being thrown into it and how many governments were getting involved."

Before 2019, Prince Harry and Meghan worked with William and his wife, Kate Middleton, on their charity work. When Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior royals, they set up their own philanthropic organization.

Victoria Murphy, a royal commentator, noted that "Harry is no longer a working royal. Invictus no longer sits under the umbrella of organizations that the royal family officially are part of and therefore, they haven't mentioned it at all since Harry stepped back as a working royal."

King Charles, who was still Prince Charles at the time, attended the first Invictus Games along with other members of the royal family, but hasn't been to any subsequent events related to Invictus. The late Queen Elizabeth participated in a video with Barack and Michelle Obama for the second Invictus Games.
