Golden State Warriors star point guard Stephen Curry was reevaluated on Tuesday and is "making good progress" in his recovery from a sprained right ankle, the team announced.

Curry has been cleared to resume on-court workouts and is expected to join the Warriors for practice in Los Angeles on Friday, at which point he will be reevaluated again. He could potentially return for Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Curry sprained his ankle in Golden State's 125-122 loss to the Chicago Bulls last week. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported at the time that the injury wasn't "expected to cost him many games," though Warriors head coach Steve Kerr later ruled out Curry for the team's matchup against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, which will be his third straight missed game.

The two-time MVP has been the lone source of consistency in a rollercoaster season for Golden State. He's averaged 26.9 points, 4.9 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting 44.9 percent from the floor and 40.7 percent from three-point range. No other Warriors player is averaging 20 points this season.

At 34-30, the Warriors rank 10th in the Western Conference with the postseason quickly approaching. Golden State was able to string some wins together after the All-Star break, but the team still faces an uphill battle as it tries to climb the standings.

With a trip to the play-in tournament likely on the horizon, the Warriors are surely hoping to have Curry at full health, so it's not surprising that they are exercising caution with his eventual return.

During his absence, Golden State has relied on veterans Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green to lead the way with youngsters Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski picking up the slack.
