In 1994, rap legend The Notorious B.I.G introduced the world to Lil’ Kim.
Lil’ Kim began making a name for herself as a founding member of the rap group Junior M.A.F.I.A.
She would go on to become of the world’s most influential female rappers, with multiple hits reaching double platinum status.
Her fame led to an influx of admirers, many of who dreamed of becoming America’s next female rapper.
She has since accumulated a net worth of approximately $500,000 from her music and concerts throughout her career.
As beloved as Lil’ Kim is, even she has to deal with the social media trolls.
On December 17, she released the song she wrote for Nick Cannon’s Christmas film Miracles Across 125th Street, called ‘Big Santa Papi’.
Twitter users were quick to comment when visuals for the song began making the rounds on the platform.
The song and its video have been criticized online for the image of Lil’ Kim seducing Santa Claus, something many users found highly disturbing.
One Twitter user echoed the sentiments of many others, saying, “Y’all know I love Lil Kim but this Christmas song and video ain’t it… at all!”
How Lil’ Kim Became an Icon?
The rap icon’s net worth is attributed to her success in the music industry.
Her debut album, Hard Core, was certified double platinum soon after being released and has sold over 6 million copies worldwide since its release in 1996.
Lil’ Kim has also been the recipient of two Billboard Music Awards, a Grammy, two Soul Train Awards, and three VMAs.
As of 2021, she has sold more than 15 million albums and 30 million singles.
Her net worth only rose when she began taking minor roles in films like Zoolander, becoming a cultural icon.
Cardi B To The Rescue
Rapper Cardi B is no stranger to partaking in Twitter drama and often calls people out when defending other stars.
After the Lil’ Kim song went viral, she replied to a Tweet detailing how The public has scrutinized Lil’ Kim over the last 12 months.
Cardi said:
“I’m tired of it and it’s heartbreaking…She’s is so sweet , supportive and a REAL F—– LEGEND ..I remember when I used to beef wit bitches and I used to put on my MySpace her song F— YOU!” Cardi wrote on Twitter, referencing the rapper’s 1996 track “F— You.” “I think it gotta be these 2000’s born kids on this app that don’t know about s—!”
While some praised her for speaking up about her idol, many users were quick to point out that Cardi B may not be as big of a Lil’ Kim fan as she seems.
After a user accused her of not wanting to collaborate, she pointed out that that had nothing to do with Lil’ Kim being a victim of cyberbullying, adding that she is waiting for the right song to ask Kim to be part of.
Admiration clearly goes both ways. In 2019 Lil’ Kim spoke to Build about Cardi B re-doing the hit song “Lady Marmalade,” saying:
“I would leave that to Cardi. Cardi said she wanted to do something like that, so let her pick. She’s got the crown.”
