James Finley and Amanda Arciniega live in Fort Worth, Texas, and gave birth to the twins on 3rd October at the Health Harris Methodist Hospital.

When the couple discovered they were about to give birth to their twins in pregnancy, they were perplexed. The mother, Arciniega, said, “Why would this happen to us?”

The twins were joined with their muscles, skin, and organs, like the liver, at the time of their birth. A report from 2016 confirmed that such incidents of twins are called Omphalopagus Twins, which indicates the twins that share an abdominal wall and gastrointestinal system.

Such twins have a good chance of survival if professional surgery is done. The National Institutes of Health claimed that about 10% of conjoined twins are Omphalopagus twins.

The CEO of the hospital, Rick Merrill, said, “This is a magical moment for Cook Children’s.”

The lead surgeon of the twin operation was Dr. José Iglesias, who said, “We are very happy with their progress at this point. We are focusing on their healing. They obviously have risks for several things but we’re keeping an eye on those.”

The successful surgery of twins went viral on the internet because the officials from the hospital claimed that only 25% of cases of twin birth take place in such a way.

The hospital’s CEO exclaimed his happiness through his statement, saying,“They’re going to grow up into the little girls that they’re supposed to be: independent and feisty like they’ve already shown us. So, we’re very thankful with that so far.”
