Shayne Anderson's Men's Basketball Recruiting Profile

Personal Statement

I can't remember a time where I didn't wake up everyday wanting to play a game of basketball or practice my basketball skills.  Growing up in Southeast Alaska on Annette Island Reserve, my small hometown lives and breathes basketball and starts at a very young age with little league which is where I felt the love of the competition. I played 6 years in the Taquan Hoopers little league with the ability to move to upper division a grade earlier because of my skill level and dedication.

I am an Alaskan Native and proud citizens of the Metlakatla Indian Community, which is located on Annette Island Reserve where I spent most of my childhood. Three years ago my mom moved my brothers and I to Anacortes , Washington to give us a broader education and give me a more well-rounded experience of  basketball since she recognized that in order to improve my skills I needed to enhance and expand my surroundings. We had the opportunity to watch Anacortes High School basketball when both Metlakatla and Anacortes were invited to play a Christmas tournament in Ketchikan, Alaska a year before we moved. They were amazing with organized plays, teamwork and good coaching which is why they won the tournament. My mom decided then that I needed to be part of an organization that not only will enhance my basketball skill but be part of an aggressive, winning team. This move to Anacortes has allowed me to play one year AAU basketball, one year middle school basketball and now 2 years High School basketball. I have had the opportunity to improve my ball handling, soft skills, shooting, passing and rebounding along with being a leader on the court. I also have been coached by some amazing coaches and have a deeper understanding how important teamwork is on and off the court.  My ability to hustle down the court, make layups and jump shots, block the shots, and rebounds makes me an important member of the team.

So why pick me? Well that is easy, confidence because I always show up to play, I always show up to win and I always show up to be coached!   I work hard on and off the court with my education being a top priority along with spending time with my family, which I have 8 siblings and 2 step-siblings...yes there is 11 of us! I strive hard to be a good role model for my brothers and lead by example for my team, family, friends, and classmates. I am a natural leader but also know I can learn from others. I strive daily to find ways to improve myself both physically and mentally.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile and please check it often for updated videos showing both skill drills and games along with posting upcoming games and camps I will be playing.
