Personal Statement

Coaches-

My name is Savannah Bean and I am from Fernandina Beach, Florida. I am a junior and I am #3 for my club team, Instinct in Jacksonville, and #12 for my high school team, the Fernandina Beach Pirates in Fernandina Beach, Florida. My primary position is middle blocker, but I also have experience in working as a pin hitter. This past season I served as Captain of my high school team and lead the team with 137 kills and 49 blocks and earned the offensive player of the year award. I started playing volleyball in 8th grade and have played ever since, both high school and club. I am completely dedicated to my team and will do whatever it takes to get better and keep improving. In addition to being ambitious in the gym, I am also very academically inclined in the classroom.

As a student, I have maintained an unweighted GPA of 3.879 and a weighted GPA of 4.697 and am ranked 7th out of my class of 217 students. This year in addition to my normal class load during school hours, I have also taken extra online classes. I’ve taken the SAT once and scored an 1190 and plan on retaking it again soon. I’ve have not taken the ACT but have made arrangements to do so in April. I’ve been the Class of 2015 student body president ever since my freshmen year and am an active member of the National Honor Society, Teens for Change, and Link crew as well as being an alumni of Nassau County Youth Leadership program, Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership organization, and the Young Leaders Conference with the University of Florida. Apart from these extra-curricular activities, I also tutor younger students and volunteer at a local dance studio.

After high school, I plan on playing collegiate volleyball while getting a degree in biology and psychology, continuing on to medical school and ultimately becoming an oncologist and working at a children’s hospital.
