Riley Davis's Softball Recruiting Profile

Personal Statement

I consistently push myself in academics and athletics. I always take the more challenging class because I thrive off of problem solving, critical thinking, and persistence that my education and playing softball has taught me over the years. I’m looking for a college that will academically challenge me and best prepare me for my future career. While in college I want to grow as student as well as a person through the classroom as well as my life on campus. I strive to be my best both in the classroom as well as on the field as a teammate by learning  from my mistakes and how to adapt in order to avoid them in the future.

As a player, I feel very connected to my teammates and coaches, but I don’t let my emotions affect me on the field. I’ve established different techniques for myself to become mentally prepared prior to game time so that when I walk onto the field I’m ready to play at my full potential. As a result I’m able to stay calm in otherwise stressful situations, and I allow myself to stay level headed in the face of adversity. Even at my best I’m still capable of making an error,  but I believe that taking accountability for those errors allows you and your teammates to move forward in a game. I’m always available for my teammates on and off the field. If I see a teammate who is struggling a little I’m there encouraging them and letting them know we have their back. I want to be someone who they feel they can always talk to, whether it be about the game or other life situations that they may need assistance with.

I started playing catch with my dad when I was 4 years old because I loved watching the Phillies with him. Ever since then I’ve been involved with baseball or softball in some way. I was literally counting down until I could start playing t-ball and even today when we have an extended rest period without team practices I miss my time with my teammates on the field. I also enjoy teaching younger players at their practices and even put together a skills video so they could work at home while everything was on hold due to COVID-19.  I would love to continue my softball career beyond high school if given the opportunity.
