Remains of final 2 missing boaters recovered from Lake Lanier

According to a spokesman for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the bodies of Arthur McMahan Jr. and Anthony Reece were pulled from the north-Georgia lake overnight into Sunday. Officials said they were found in about 90 feet of water.

Early Saturday morning, crews announced that they had located the bodies of Melissa McMahan and Tammy Reece. According to officials, the four were visiting Atlanta from Kentucky for a poker run on Lake Lanier.

Saturday night, the families of the boaters released a statement saying:

“At this time we want to thank the community, friends and family for their ongoing love and support. Our parents meant the world to us, we never realized how much impact they had on people’s lives. They both were such amazing, loving and caring parents, grandparents, children siblings and friends to so many. They were one of a kind and will truly be missed. Thank you again for your continued prayers.”

Officials are continuing to investigate how the boat ended up capsizing in the water, though witnesses at the lake told investigators the boaters hit a patch of wake before the accident.
