Former Olympic skier Picabo Street was charged with assault and domestic violence after allegedly pushing her elderly father down a flight of stairs in December.
Brady McCombs of the Associated Press reported the news Wednesday. Street, 44, was charged with three counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child and one count of assault. All four charges are misdemeanors.
According to the police affidavit, Street admitted to locking her 76-year-old father in the basement of their Utah home after the two were involved in a physical altercation. Street's father, Roland, claimed the gold-medal winner attacked him after he hit her house with his car when attempting to leave the property.
Street's 9-1-1 call was released by the Daily Mail:
"Roland stated that Picabo then began to get very angry and started yelling at him," the affidavit reads, per McKenzie Romero of KSL.com.
He said Picabo then grabbed him before pushing him down the stairs, where he may have suffered a head wound.
Picabo Street, who was the one to call authorities, claims her father yanked her hair. Injuries were found on Roland Street's elbow and neck. No known injuries were found on Picabo Street, per the AP report. Roland Street has not been charged with a crime.
Picabo is best known for her illustrious Olympic career, which included a gold medal in the Super-G at the 1998 Nagano Games. She also won a silver in downhill at the 1994 Lillehammer Games. A 1998 crash that left her on the shelf for two years because of knee injuries halted her career, and she never reached her previous peak upon her return.
Street has appeared intermittently on television as a skiing analyst and was a contestant on the 2012 NBC series Stars Earn Stripes. She is currently out on bond and set to appear in court Feb. 16 for her next hearing.
