TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Netherlands government announced that Indonesian passports filed for visa applications without a column of the holder’s signature will be rejected starting Monday, October 10, 2022.
“The Netherlands will only recognize Indonesian passports for visa applications if they contain the holder's signature,” the Dutch Embassy said in its official Twitter statement quoted on Friday, October 7, 2022.
It is required for Indonesians holding a passport without a space for the holder’s signature or a signature via an endorsement stamp to file the request to Immigration officials or consular officials abroad.
A similar policy is previously imposed by Germany in mid-August 2022. The issue seized the public spotlight after one internet user complained on social media that the German Embassy denied the visa applications due to the omission of the signature column.
The problem had been resolved by now. The Germany Embassy in Jakarta issued an official statement that Indonesian passports with add-on signatures can be accepted and processed for visa applications.
The Immigration Directorate General confirmed on its official website that there is an endorsement page that could allow passport holders without a signature column to enter Germany so long it is from immigration officials or Indonesian representatives abroad.
