Nasim Pedrad was born November 18, 1981, in Tehran, Iran. She is the daughter of Arasteh Amani and Parviz Pedrad. Nasim’s younger sister, comedy writer Nina Pedrad, earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2021. The Pedrad family emigrated to the U.S. in 1984 and settled in Irvine. Nasim attended the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, graduating in 2003. While at UCLA, she joined the UCLA Spring Sing Company and recommended future “Saturday Night Live” cast member Mikey Day for a writing job on the show in 2013.
The Pedrad family is Muslim, and both Nasim and Nina can speak Persian fluently.
