M Dot R is a British musician who’s unusual in that he’s a Caucasian who specializes in reggae and furthermore sings in Jamaican patois. He’s considered a genuine aficionado of Jamaican culture, further making a name for himself as a chef who focuses on propagating Caribbean cuisine. To note, England does have a notable Jamaican community, and M Dot has implied that he first fell in love with reggae when his sister, a Londoner, was dating a Jamaican guy.

And verily, the lyrics of this song are in fact in Patois. What we’re dealing with here, as far as the main theme of the track, is an explicit sex song. Those of us familiar with reggae sex songs know that they usually entail the vocalist touting himself as an extraordinary lover. And so it is in this case, with the title pointing to M Dot’s assertion that ‘when he f*cks p*ssy’, it ‘turns red’. Or put otherwise, the vocalist, as relayed, is very strong in the sack.
And so it is into the first verse, with Dot R, most simply put, celebrating his wild sex drive. Indeed, if a woman is ‘looking for a one-minute man’, she best look somewhere else, as he’s rather dedicated to rendering powerful bonings.
Meanwhile, the second verse deals with diverse topics beyond the vocalist’s sexual prowess, such as his affinity for marijuana and, more notably, his street toughness.

But it is that same reality, i.e. a straight-up Caucasian Brit embracing Jamaican culture, which has made him stand out (such as being dubbed the “White Lion”). In other words, Turn Red arguably wouldn’t be anything particularly noteworthy if it were coming from a standard reggae artist. But that said, M Dot R has established himself as a viable musician as opposed to a novelty.
