TEMPO.CO, London - Marion Bartoli won her first ever grand slam title in her career history after beating Sabine Lisicki on two straight sets 6-1, 6-4 at Wimbledon final on Saturday July 6. Bartoli become the first French woman to sit on Wimbledon's single throne after Amelie Mauresmo in 2006.
Upon her winning, Bartoli climbed the VIP tribune where her family were watching the game and hugging them. "I can feel Sabine's grief. I am sure that she will achieve it in another opportunity," said Bartoli at the trophy handover. Lisicki also gave her compliment "Marion played perfectly," said the German player.
At her first final performance, young Lisicki looked nervous and executed many unforced errors. Meanwhile Bartoli did not miss the opportunity and took advantage to control the game. The world's 15-seeded tennis player soon led the game 4-1. Bartoli won the first set in 30 minutes.
At the beginning of the second set, Bartoli lead 3-1. Lisicki then presented a double fault service twice, she broke into tears and played inaccurately that made Bartoli lead 4-1. Lisicki tried to fight back and amazingly managed to catch up her score to 4-5. Eventually the german could not afford Bartoli's forehand and backhand slams. Marion Bartoli won the tenth game with an ace service. She finished the second set in 51 minutes.
"You can't describe that kind of feeling. You cannot put any words what I feel in this moment," she said.
