Deacon Louis Vinson (Kenny) departed this life to go and be with the Lord on January 11, 2022. Deacon Vinson was better known as Daddy, Pop Vinson, Grand Daddy Pop (affectionately named by his great granddaughter Shakira White) and Uncle Kenny. He was born on March 18, 1938 to Paul Vinson II and Geneva Hampton in Boykins, VA. He was raised in and around the Murfreesboro, NC area. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, Paul Vinson III. (Pete), McCoy Vinson (Boochie), grandson Kenny D. Vinson Jr. and his mother-in-law Pastor Mother Margaret G. Fauntleroy.
Kenny married Doris Jean Fauntleroy in Norfolk, VA on January 13, 1958. Through their union two sons were born. Kenny Devane Vinson (Michelle) and Keith Dorsey Vinson (Yvonne). Kenny was a kind hearted loving man whose willingness to help others was beyond reproach. He led by example, not just words. He would get out of his bed to go help anyone in need. He was a rule follower and always stood for what was right.
Kenny was a mechanic by trade at an early age. He honed his skills when he attended Norfolk State University’s automotive program. He opened his own service station in Norfolk, Va in 1967, where he employed his father-in-law Oaxie Fauntleroy and his nephew Jobie Boone Jr. He then worked as a mechanic at Sears for 20+ years. After retiring from Sears, he went to work delivering auto parts until he retired for good in 2014. Deacon Vinson was the chairman of the deacon board and he was a faithful member of First Gospel Tabernacle Church in Chesapeake, VA for 62 years. He taught Sunday school, took care of the church lawn and anything else he could around the church. He truly loved the Lord, his family, his church and his Pastor, Bishop Jobie Boone, Jr.
Left to cherish his precious memories are his wife of 64 years, his two sons, his sister Lucille Burnham, his brother Bobby Vinson, three sisters-in-law, Mother Ernestine Boone (his best Buddy), Mildred Vinson and Shirley Vinson; His first granddaughter Shuvonda Vinson-White, 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a special niece Joyce Lomax and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
