Kevin Wynn Died: A Remarkable Dancer and Choreographer Gone

The world of dance has lost one of its brightest stars. Kevin Wynn, a distinguished dancer, choreographer, and teacher, known for his intricate compositions and profound kindness, passed away on October 13, 2023. This news has deeply affected the global dance community, leaving a void that will be hard to fill.

A Life Dedicated to Dance

Born with an innate passion for dance, Kevin received his early training at esteemed schools such as the Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Workshops for Careers in the Arts in Washington, D.C. He further honed his skills by attending Cal Arts and Purchase College’s Conservatory of Dance.

Kevin’s dance career was marked by significant collaborations with renowned dance companies and choreographers. He worked with the likes of the José Limón Dance Company, Dianne McIntyre’s Sounds in Motion Dance Company, Mel Wong, Daniel Nagrin, Jacques d’Amboise, Kazuko Hirabayashi, and Warren Spears.

Making His Mark on the World Stage

Wynn’s work extended well beyond the dance studio. His choreography was featured in various prominent New York City venues, including the Joyce Theater, Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, and Symphony Space. His talent also led him to receive commissions from esteemed international organizations such as Ailey II, Singapore Dance Ensemble, Dallas Black Dance Theater, and American Ballet Theater Intensive.

Dedicated to fostering art in education, Wynn conducted workshops and served as a choreographer for several prestigious institutions globally, including the Tisch School of the Arts, Yale University, and UCLA.

An Enduring Legacy

Even though he is no longer with us, Kevin’s legacy lives on through the dancers he trained and the audiences he touched. As an Associate Professor Emeritus of Dance, Kevin had the opportunity to shape the next generation of dancers, instilling in them his passion for dance, his commitment to pushing the boundaries of the art form, and his big-heartedness.

Kevin Wynn was not only an exceptional dancer and choreographer but also a kind-hearted person who left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
