Justin Holt's Baseball Recruiting Profile

Personal Statement

Looking back on my entire baseball career, to date, the most important lesson I learned was to persevere through obstacles, as well as the true meaning of what it means to be not only a team, but to also be a team player who goes above and beyond whether on the field or cheering on your team on from the bench.  I have learned many important lessons that showed me just how much I truly love this game and how fortunate I am to be a part of such a great program at Commerce High School, and the impact it's making on me as a student-athlete.  I have not mastered or perfected this game by any means, but I believe that I have the skills it requires to play at the next level if given the opportunity.

My parents having separated and went their separate ways when I was only a baby had a very large influence on my life and who I am today.  My mom raised me on her own, and has always believed in me and my talent on the baseball field. When she went back to school and graduated with her degree, she showed me that it doesn't matter where you have been or how large the mountain is in front of you, as long as I work hard, do my best, and stay strong that I can accomplish anything that I set my mind to.  Her determination and drive is why I get out on the field every time and give it 110%.  We learned at the end of my sophomore year that I might possibly have some learning disabilities that we were not aware of earlier. I see this mountain ahead of me in my academic career and I am now focused on the task of climbing it and getting to the top no matter the degree of difficulty that might lie ahead of me.  I will face it with the same determination and mindset that I saw in my mom when she made the decision to obtain her degrees.  This is why Philippians 4:13 is sewed into my glove because I know that "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength."

Baseball is not just a game to me, it's a passion that I have carried since I was three years old when I first played the game. It was my release when my parents were going through court battles and I was caught in the middle. In a way I guess you could say that the game is my best friend. It has taught me lessons of commitment, teamwork, sacrifice of myself for others, and leadership even when you're not able to get on the field. It's also taught me to serve others through baseball camps and giving younger kids baseball lessons to help them become the best version of their selves both on the field and off.

I am looking for a program that will not only fit me athletically, but also one that will be great for me in my academic career as well.  I feel that my passion for the game makes me a great fit for the right college program, as well as my desire to continue to learn and grow not only as a student, a player, but also the man I am destined to be in life.

As my Senior year quickly approaches, I look forward to the next year of HS baseball and continuing to develop my skills while also building my character by becoming the player that colleges would be excited to have.
