Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Joshua Gaus. My goals for college are to further my education and have fun doing something I love, playing soccer. I make a good candidate for a team because I am willing to put in the work both in the classroom and on the field, I have a large understanding of how different types of defenses work, and I have a lot of room for growth as a player.
One of the things that has helped shape who I am is my schools music department. I am very active in this which has given me the opportunity to see how other people lead as well as giving me a place to help develop as a person and as a leader. As a leader I don't always say the most, but more importantly I lead by giving a good example. Also, the two moments as a player that have influenced me the most are losing my district championship game in 2016 and getting flipped onto my head during a game. While winning is a good feeling, what happens when someone loses shows more about them. I tried my hardest and my team also did for most of the game but we got beat by simply a better team. All this does is make me want to go back and do more work to be able to finally win the tournament my schools program has never won. Also when I got flipped onto my head in July 2015 during a game at a soccer camp I thought I had sustained a serious neck injury. Thankfully I did not and I have been able to continue playing. This taught me to appreciate what I have and to live in the moment because as a player and in life you never know when something will end and you can't go back to fix it.
