Personal Statement
My name is José Pablo Segura Queijeiro.
I was born in Mexico City and started playing football at the age of nine. I became an international student as a freshman looking to play highschool football in the U.S.
My freshman year I played freshman football as a running back and studied in the U.S. We won all of our games but one. I returned to Mexico City my sophomore and junior year where I started as running back, slot receiver, punt returner and kick returner in varsity. My junior year I ran for 602 yards on 65 carries and 10 touchdowns in a stretch of 8 games. That same year my team and I won the National Championship where I ran for 179 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns.
I decided to return my senior year to the U.S. to play football. 4 hours before I got on my plane I was told that I was not going to be able to play because I was going to be considered as a transfer student and I was ineligible for 90 school days.
I Worked hard every single day at practice and became bigger, faster, stronger, and I learned so much about myself when facing adversity, but knowing that all that hard work was going to help my teammates was what kept me going. We won the state Championship in 3A and I realized all hard work pays off.
I was voted by my teammates for the Xavier Highschool pride award for all my hard work and love to the sport even when I knew I wasn’t going to be able to step on the field.
I know I can play at the next level and I know that there is no adversity that’s going to stop me from achieving my goals as a student and as an athlete in my college career.
Currently playing Junior College Football at Orange Coast College in California.
