Joe Simpson, whose birth name is Joe Truett Simpson, was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 18th, 1958. He is the son of Joyce Alice Adams and Curtis T. Simpson, and has an older sister named Sally. Curtis passed away in 1985 and Joyce in 2001. Interestingly, Joyce was a distant relative of former vice president Al Gore.

Joe Simpson started his career as a psychologist and Baptist minister, frequently moving with his family until they settled in Texas. In 1999, they moved to Los Angeles to support Jessica’s career, and Joe became her and Ashlee’s manager.
