Personal Statement
I am a mid-distance and distance freestyler who also competes in the 200 fly (not as often anymore) and 400 IM. I am from Cedar Rapids, Iowa with a 4.0 GPA and will graduate in 2019. In high school, I have swam varsity every year and was voted Rookie of the Year my freshman year. I helped two relays qualify for state championships my freshman and sophomore years and added the 200 free and 500 free individual races my sophomore year. Each year, I was a first team all-conference and first team all-metro swimmer. This year, as a junior, I qualified for both freestyle relays as well as the 200 free and 500 free at state. My team voted me "Most Valuable Player" and I have first team all-metro, first team all-conference, and honorable mention all-state honors as well. I also swim for the Eastern Iowa Swimming Federation (previously called Cedar Rapids Aquatic Association) where I hold a couple team records and am senior team captain. I have participated in Zones and several USA Speedo Sectional meets. This past season, I had Sectional Qualifying times in the: 100 Free, 200 Free, 500 Free, 1000 Free, 1650 Free, and the 400 IM. My long course Sectional Qualifying times are in the 200, 400, 800 and 1500 Free as well as the 400 IM. A long-term goal of mine is to move up to Futures, Junior Nationals, Nationals, etc.
Outside of the pool, I work hard to maintain a high GPA and being involved in different activities. I am on our school’s varsity show choir, student advisory board (called Committee WHS), Green Team (our school's environmental activity), and am active in my church’s youth group. These activities have also allowed me to volunteer in my community in projects like: Senior Prom (my church’s event for Senior Citizens), helping run swim meets, contributing time and money to our local Ronald McDonald House, and finding ways our school can be more environmentally friendly. I am considering a major in a Math or Science field, perhaps engineering.
