Wide receiver James Jones has been patiently waiting for an opportunity this offseason, and now the 31-year-old says he is headed to the New York Giants on a one-year deal, according to Fallon Smith of CSN Bay Area.

Tom Coughlin confirmed the signing on Friday, per Art Stapleton of The Record.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Jones initially reported would be meeting with the New York Giants.

Rapoport added the allure of the Giants' coaching staff is appealing to Jones:

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet

James Jones loves McAdoo. Respects the heck out of Tom Coughlin RT @ManganTime: @RapSheet Knows the McAdoo offense well, too…

Ben McAdoo is the offensive coordinator in New York, but he worked on the staff in Green Bay for the first seven years of Jones' career beginning in 2007. The two left the Packers together, with McAdoo joining Tom Coughlin's staff and Jones signing a free-agent deal with Oakland.

Jones' one season with the Raiders wasn't an entire bust, as he posted a career-high 73 catches, but averaged a career-low 9.1 yards per reception.

A move to New York, where defenses will be loading up to stop Odell Beckham Jr. and healthy Victor Cruz, can open a lot of holes for the No. 3 receiver. Jones' relationship with McAdoo only helped his cause.
