Graham Weston is an American businessman who has a net worth of $1.3 billion. He is one of the founders of the IT hosting company Rackspace and currently serves as Chairman of the Board. Weston comes from a ranching family in the San Antonio region of Texas and has been involved in entrepreneurial ventures since his early childhood.
As a seventh grader, Weston started his first business venture marketing organic pork in newspaper ads that read “Go Hog Wild!”. In high school, he took photos at livestock shows and sold them to contestants. While a student at Texas A&M, Weston launched a real estate business that lead his family to buy and develop the Weston Centre in downtown San Antonio.
It was during this period that Weston developed a keen interest in the Internet and saw a great opportunity. In 1998, he and a partner put up the initial capital for a business idea called “Rackspace.com” pitched by three local Trinity University students. The investment turned out to be a huge success and Weston soon joined Rackspace as CEO, a position he held until 2006.
In addition to his business acumen, Graham Weston is a philanthropist who provided temporary shelter for more than 2,500 victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. He was named a 2006 “Best Boss” by Fortune Small Business magazine and recognized as regional Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young.
