Steve may sound like your average bloke.
His First Dates dinner with 37-year-old Lyn was anything but.
The former royal engineer was dropped with more than one bombshell as his date revealed plenty of hard-hitting home truths during episode two of the Channel 4 series.
Psht, Steve the hero was completely unfazed by it all…

Don’t Tell Anyone, But…
Lyn, who has served in the military for 17 years, waited for her date to arrive by explaining to the probing waitresses about her little baby bump.
Because staff asking really personal and intrusive questions is completely fine when it’s a reality TV show…

Pregnant Chat
Steve and Lyn were instantly lost in each others company, forgetting to swap names as they instead rattled through a long list of similarities.
Steve gently probed his date, asking about marriage and children, and as to whether she had either in the past.
With the tummy tucked away under the dinner table, what Steve probably wasn’t expecting was a revelation that his date was six months pregnant.

The reaction of Steve was surely going to set the direction for the rest of the date.
But, the former military man took the news like a trooper.
A smile, a brave understanding face, and the look of a man who could take anything in his stride…

Lyn went on to explain that it was a donor baby, saying:
It’s a donor baby. So I’ve got no crazy ex hanging round street corners, fighting for custody or anything like that.”
Steve didn’t need to say much in response, but the few words he chose spoke volumes about his character.
Lyn confessed that she was nervous about the date, thinking a man may come in and walk straight away having noticed she was pregnant.
However, Lyn’s thoughts only spurred her date into more supportive quotes.
In Other News
The following conversation led to more revelations from Lyn, who explained that her past relationship was with a female.
It took Steve a while to get his head around Lyn’s love life from a marriage with a man, to female relationship, and now donor baby.

However, the couple chuckled together and laughed-off any feelings of momentary tenseness, with Lyn describing her date as a “gentleman”.
Happily Ever After
In the final scene, they both admitted to wanting to see each other again, although there was time for one more shock before First Dates finished.
Lyn said: “For you to accept the things that I’ve said about myself today and where I’ve come from, it says a lot about your character, and it was exactly the type of person I was hoping to meet.”
We found out that Steve and Lyn are still dating – three months on!
