Ernest D. Holmes III, 72, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather peacefully ascended to his heavenly home while being surrounded by family and friends on May 18, 2022.
Born in Norfolk, VA, he was the son of Ernest Jr. and Arvilla Holmes. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother and father, and two sisters Deborah Alexander and Donna Riddick. Ernest III lovingly known to his friends as Demi and “Boney Henry”, was a graduate of Granby High School and Norfolk State University. He was a dedicated member of boy scout troop 718 and New Mt. Zion AME Voices of Thunder. He also enjoyed giving back to the community by working in local, state, and federal elections.
Demi retired after 28 years with the International Longshoreman Local 1970. After retirement, he spent his days with his wife tending to his garden, fishing, and rooting for the best team ever his “Dallas Cowboys”. What he enjoyed most was spending time with his family and friends.
Demi leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of over forty-five years Cynthia Denise Holmes, his two sons Ernest Holmes IV (Tashana); Darion Holmes (Adrian); four grandchildren, Ernest Holmes V, Elexus Holmes, Elanah Holmes, Elaurah Holmes; one great-granddaughter, Penelope Harris-Holmes; three sisters, Gwendolyn Brown, Lynette Paige (Gwendell), Rhonda Ambrose, and a host of extended family and friends.
