walk to water it's an emotional tale about two kids in sedan but that's not [two sudanese children smiling]
all that makes this story a good read it also has a map come on maps are great
ever watch Dora the Explorer the map was the MVP of that show while using a
map might seem a little scary with all those arrows and scales and stuff it's [girl looking scared at the thought of using a map]
definitely worth it because guess what the map isn't included just for kicks
it's there to give the story more depth and who doesn't like extra depth one of
the main characters in a long walk to water Salva has to do a lot of walking [Salva walking far in Sudan]
hence the title of the book fleeing the civil war in Sedan, Salva must walk
east all the way to Ethiopia and then south all the way to the evo camp in
Kenya so while we can tell from the story that it was a long walk by using [Salva walking in the hot desert]
them map we can figure out exactly how long his journey was spoiler alert it
was crazy long the map can even enrich our knowledge of Sudan the main setting
of the story one of the causes of the Civil War is that the government in [goverment official asking people to practice islam]
Khartoum of sedans capital wanted everyone in the country to practice
Islam even though people living in the South have their own tribal religion by
looking at the map we can see how far Salva's was home was from Khartoum and in [map showing distance of Salva's home]
a sense of how decisions made far away in the capital had huge effects on
Salva's life so a little bit of technical knowledge can go a long way
