Dr. Seth Dennis - Psychologist - Durham, NC

About Seth Dennis

I practice psychology with the guiding principles of respect for individual differences and diversity, honesty and integrity, and a commitment to producing results. To do this, it is necessary to use a combination of techniques and strategies, rather than sticking to just one way of doing therapy. For example, the fellowships of AA and NA, work great for many people, but for others, they find their recovery somewhere else. Likewise, by incorporating elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and relational psychology into the therapy, I can work effectively with a wide range of people and problems. I have found that a willingness to be flexible, usually leads to progress.

Professionally, I have spent the better part of a decade working with people to help them realize change. In addition to a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, I also completed a Master’s Degree in Human Sexuality. I have worked extensively in both inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as conducted published research on the entertainment industry. Although many of my patients are struggling with issues related to addiction, and/or sexuality, I also see many people who have other types of concerns, as well as individuals who have received a diagnosis of personality disorder.

In addition to my Durham practice, I also work with people over the Internet, and by telephone. My teletherapy practice enables me to work with people who cannot come to my office, as well as people who prefer the flexibility that Internet therapy and the telephone offers.

Some of my mobile therapy work is also done through Lipton Health, where I am the Director of Coaching and Psychological Services. I have guest lectured at Universities in Pennsylvania and Delaware, and serve as a consultant to other practicing psychologists. I am also a National Registered Health Service Provider in Psychology.
