Derek Hough’s lapel pins on DWTS are created by jewelry designer Mindy Lam. He told her on Instagram, “The look is not complete without one of your pieces.”
He first began wearing Mindy’s brooches in 2020. Then, in 2021, Derek accessorised with another lapel pin by the same designer, who went on to design a personal brooch for his 2023 wedding day.

Derek Hough often wears different lapel pins and brooches. His wedding day brooch was a golden dove with golden branches and rare pearl blossoms, as part of the Mindy Lam’s Ethereal Collection.
Lim wrote: “The nook extends its golden branches, thriving and spreading as their devotion for each other grows. They nurtured a new pearl blossom, as they continued to build and cherish each new spark of life.”
Derek is rarely seen without his glamorous lapel pin on DWTS. Mindy’s brooches range from around $300 to $1.8K and can be found on her website, where customers can enquire for custom couture pieces.
The brooch designer is a transplant receiver
In 2010, Mindy Lam’s business came to a screeching halt after her heart stopped and was diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease. The next three years included losing her home, due to her inability to work.
In 2013, when her daughter was of age, she donated her kidney to Mindy. Three years later, Mindy relaunched her jewelry business and now has special collaborations to continue to uplift and spread love.
Designing for over 18 years, Lam was a favorite at Henri Bendel in New York City for almost 10 years and has been featured in the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Elle, Brides Magazine, Glamour, and more.
