Cynthia Jane Pine – Metropolitan Funeral

Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Cynthia was known as Cease to friends and family.

She delighted in intellectual pursuits and using her hands to create crafted artwork, often with complex patterns and textures, in materials such as fabric, fiber, metal and glass. She had a lifelong passion for sewing and took up quilting with gusto. She was accomplished in cross-stitch and knitting. Later in life, she took up stained glass and basket weaving.

Cease loved learning and she loved sharing what she learned with others. She was the first to ask questions, her mind filled with curiosity and connecting one idea rapidly to the next. Often, she was also the first to offer to teach a class, share an interesting fact, or show you how to accomplish a task more efficiently.

Throughout her life, Cease was active in her community, volunteering and frequently taking on leadership roles. Most recently, Cease was an active member of The Tidewater Quilters Guild, The Tidewater Basketry Guild, multiple book clubs, and the Resident Board of Directors in her apartment complex. She regularly knitted hats for nonprofit organizations, donated handmade blankets, and supported a wide variety of charitable causes.

Beginning her higher education at The University of Wisconsin – Madison, Cease took a break from school to marry and raise a family. She completed her undergraduate degree at Old Dominion University. Later she completed a second undergraduate degree from the DePaul School of Nursing, earning her R.N.

Cease was passionate about diabetes prevention and education, attaining additional credentialing in order to become a Certified Diabetes Educator. She focused her career on service to others. Even in retirement, Cease continued to teach educational seminars to at-risk health populations as a volunteer.
